Alvin A. "Igg" Wilde of Lansing died in his home on Wednesday, March 9.
He was born January 18, 1897 in New Albin to William and Augusta (Kuehn) Wilde.
He married the former Ruth Steele on December 8, 1916 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He owned and operated the Wilde Shoe Store in Lansing from 1934 until 1962, when he retired.
He was a 50 year member of the Lansing American Legion, a 50 year member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge 144, a charter member of the Lansing Kiwanis Club and a veteran of World War I.
Mr. Wilde was a skilled angler who preferred to catch walleye over any other species. He was also a veteran duck hunter and enjoyed the sport as recently as the fall of 1976.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1968, and two sons and a sister.
His son John lost his life in World War II. He was killed in a plane crash.
He is survived by one son, Milton of Lansing; one daughter Mrs. M.Z. (Jean) Bailey of Des Moines; one brother Clarence of Albert Lea, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. William (Benita) Cress of Salibury, North Carolina; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, the Rev. John J. Hall officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim and Bob Wellendorf, Bob Roeder, Gary Gibbs, John Pete Spinner and Jerry Manning.
Military rites were conducted at graveside. Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
