Duane Wedo, 45, Waukon, died Friday, March 11at the Veteran's Hospital in Iowa City after an illness of about five years. He was born July 1, 1931 in Clermont to Charles and Mary Sampson Wedo. He was educated in the Postville schools and was a farmer, a milk hauler and a feed store retailer.
He was married on November 21, 1955, to Bernice Ellingson Opheim in Waukon. She survives with two sons, James of Munich, Germany and Mark of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Joanne of Mason City; two stepsons, Lyle and John Opheim of Postville; one grandchild; and his parents, the Charles Wedos. Also surviving are three brothers, Laverne and Robert of Postville and Lewis of Decorah; one sister, Mrs. Henry (Betty) Flock of Castalia.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Toastmasters Club, the American Legion, a past president of the St. John's Lutheran Church board, and a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, were services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 14. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Military rites were held at the graveside. Rev. Marlyn Hansing officiated and Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
