Funeral services were held on Friday, March 23, at 1:30 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church for Mary Westby, age 99, who died March 20, 1979 at her home. She was born on March 12, 1880 in Winneshiek County to John and Johanna Westby. Mary was a graduate of Waukon High School, a teacher for fifty years, and was principal in the Cresco Elementary Schools for thirty years. Upon retirement, she moved back to her home in Waukon. She was a charter member of the Normandia Club, member of the Wa-Tan -Ye Club, and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, also she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are four nieces and one nephew. Deceased are her brothers, Joseph, Carl and Albert, and her sister Sophia.
Rev. Marlyn Hansing officiated at the services. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carl Berge, Arnold Ellingson, W.C. "Con" Grangaard, Grant Grinna, Irvin Berge and Bill Buege. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
