Mrs. Wm. Bareis Passes Away Thursday Morning

Mrs. William Bareis, a resident of Postville and vicinity since 1900, passed away Thursday morning after a week's illness. She was 53 years old. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Bareis home at 1:30 o'clock and in St. Paul's Lutheran church at 2:00 o'clock. The Rev. F.R. Ludwig officiated. Burial was in Postville cemetery. Pallbearers were Otto Sander, Elmer Sander, Charles Hammel, Wilbert Wilke, Walter Meyer and Elmer Meyer. The wives of the pallbearers were in charge of flowers.

As Augusta Kuhse, she was born in Guttenberg on September 20, 1886, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kuhse. She obtained an education in the rural and public schools near her home at Guttenberg, and was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Guttenberg. In 1900 she moved with her parents to Postville, living on a farm near town for several years. On February 10, 1915, she was married to William Bareis. They lived on the old Henry Schuette farm, now owned by C.F. Meier, southeast of Postville. Six years later, in 1921, they moved to town.

Three children were born to their union, one child passing away in infancy in 1918. Mrs. Bareis is survived by her husband, two children, Arbe and Orlene, both living at home, three brothers and two sisters, Fred Kuhse of Postville, Rudy Kuhse of Farmersburg, William Kuhse of Froelich, Mrs. Ernest Brandt and Mrs. Alvin Meyer, both living near Postville. Two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Hoffman and Mrs. William Mecklenberg, preceded her in death. Mrs. Mecklenberg passed away two months ago.
