Former Postville Resident Passes on in Nebraska

Damond Meyer of Castalia and Edmund Meyer of Waukon went to Seward, Neb., Saturday to attend the funeral of their brother-in-law, Clemens Schwabe, who at one time lived in Postville. Funeral services and burial took place Monday afternoon. Mr. Schwabe passed away Thursday after a week's illness. He is survived by his wife, four sisters living in Germany, and a cousin, Gustav Dietsch of Postville.

He was born 56 years ago in Treuen, Saxony, Germany. In 1904, when Mr. Dietsch was visiting in Germany, he asked Mr. Dietsch for a job in his newspaper office in Postville. As there was room for a printer, Mr. Dietsch brought him to the United States and from 1903 until 1908, Mr. Schwabe worked on the "Volksblatt" for Mr. Dietsch. When the paper was sold to Ronneburger & Hoesly in 1908, Mr. Schwabe left Postville, working in several other cities before locating permanently in Seward, Nebraska, where he purchased a weekly paper, the 'Seward Journal'. He continued in business there until his death.

He was married in Postville to Miss Bertha Meyer, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Meyer, about 28 years ago.
