Died, at his home in Postville, February 20th, 1895, of pneumonia, Samuel Wilson Courson, aged 76 years and ten months.

Mr. Courson was one of a family of eleven children, born to Anthony and Elizabeth Courson, born April 8th, 1818, in Venango Co., Pa. The family removed to Warren Co., Pa. in 1825, where Samuel was married August 1st, 1839, to Esther Thompson, who survives him; moved to the farm in Grand Meadow township in June, 1854, where they remained until the spring of 1888, when they came to Postville. Seven children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy. Of the five surviving, Mrs. M.L. Alward resides in Postville; Anthony W., at Lincoln, Neb.; Mrs. Mary C. Stowe, at Fort Dodge, Iowa; Wilson W. at Clarion, Iowa; Elmer T. lives at home in Postville. All present at the time of his death. Many grand children and some great grandchildren attend the funeral.

He was converted at a camp meeting when in his teens, and became an active, earnest member of the M.E. church and maintained his christian integrity till his departure for a better country. He was ready and happy in the thought of going to a better land. Just a week before the night of his death he was at the union meeting and when the invitation was given to christians moved promptly forward and led the people in his last prayer in the sanctuary, for the Master hath said "Well done; come up higher." Highly esteemed as a christian man, a good citizen, a member of the Masonic fraternity, he will be missed in this community. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." Funeral will be conducted by the Rev. H.S Church at the family residence this afternoon.
