Died, at his residence in Postville, on Tuesday evening, Feb. 19th, 1895, after a brief illness from pneumonia, Ela Ragan, in the 70th year of his age.
Mr. Ragan was born in Glendale, N.Y., October 30th, 1825 and came west in 1864 and was married to Jeannette Gillen, of Beloit, Wis., in 1865. He resided in and near Postville for about 30 years and was one of the best known men in this section of country, having bought stock for Hall Roberts & Co. for nineteen years, we believe. He was always a good, law abiding citizen, honest and straighforward in deal, a good neighbor and a kind, indulgent father, industrious and generous to a fault.
In the presence of death let us overlook his faults (for we all have them in some form) and emulate his good qualities, leaving the future to the Father of Mercies. The funeral was held from the Congregational church on thursday afternoon. Interment in the Postville cemetery. He leaves a wife and 6 children.
