BOYNE CITY, Mich. — William F. Spinner, 68, of Boyne City died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital of a pulmonary embolus.

William was born Dec. 14, 1941, in La Crosse, the son of Peter and Loretta Spinner.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann of 37 years; sister, Rosemary (Frank) Nevelle; two nephews, Andy and Jimmy (Michelle) Nevelle; a great-niece and great-nephew; his dog, Winston; and many other loving family and friends.

Bill graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, on Nov. 23, 1963. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin, retiring in 1997. Besides his work, he also enjoyed sailing, traveling and reading.

Memorial services for Bill will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, 1250 Boyne Ave. (M-75 S.), Boyne City, with visitation being held from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Pastor Kenneth Bernthal will be officiating.

The family requests memorial donations be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 400, Kansas City, MO 64114-3367.

Stackus Funeral Home of Boyne City is serving the family.

NOTE: his mother Loretta's maiden name was Ryan. Wm.'s father was a partner with brother Vince in Spinner Bros. Grocery in Lansing, IA
