Charles J. “Chuck” Corrigan, 86, a life long resident of Cedar Rapids, born July 30, 1923, in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Osterhaus. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a vigil will begin at 7 p.m.

He had a 60-year marriage to Mary Eleanor “Ellie” until her passing in 2008.

He is survived by his children, Patrick (Meg) of Lake Elmo, Minn., Michael (Jerre) of Stevens Pont, Wis., and Linda of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight brothers.

Charles retired from United Fire & Casualty Co. after 35 years and enjoyed 24 years of retirement. A life long member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, he served on its Holy Name Society and usher crew all those years as well as many more committees. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Mended Hearts and the American Legion of which he participated in its Military Honor Guard. He also was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society and volunteered many hours for the Alzheimer’s Society.

A lifelong sportsman who loved to hunt and fish, Charles served inn the Army during World War II.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
