Last Rites for John S. Kaeser Held Thursday

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 27, from St. John's Lutheran Church, Waukon, for John Samuel Kaeser, 85, a long-time Waukon resident.

He died Tuesday morning, June 25, at Waukon Veterans Memorial Hospital. The Rev. David R. Vaaler was the officiating minister, and burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Born September 24, 1877, a son of John J. and Harriet Deremore Kaeser, he farmed in Makee Township for many years. He married Mathilda Nelson December 31, 1908, and they moved to Waukon in 1919. She preceded him in death July 10, 1938. Two daughters of the union survive. They are Mrs K.V.(Pearl)King, Atlantic and Mrs. Ralph (Mildred)Osterholz, Waukon. A sister, Mrs. Hattie Russell and a brother, Charles, Waukon, also survive as do three grandchildren, Janet King and Richard and Kenneth Osterholz. Four sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Kaeser and Mrs. Lucy Merrick were married February 14, 1940. She died April 23, 1946.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Pallbearers were Alfred Smedsrud, Elmer Fogt, Milton Schneider, Lloyd Schneider, John Kaeser, and Glen Rice. Bakke and Hanson were in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mrs. R.A. Silbaugh was soloist and sang "Crossing the Bar" and "Behold a Host Arrayed in White" with Mrs. W.C. Grangaard organist.
