Mrs. Michael D. Kelly Funeral At Harpers

Funeral services were held yesterday morning from St.Ann's Church in Harpers Ferry for Mrs. Michael Kelly, 84, who passed away Sunday at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon from a heart attack. She had been a patient there for three weeks and her sudden death came as a great shock to family and friends. As Ida Marie Cota she was born in Harpers Ferry June 4th, 1881, a daughter of Theodore and Emma Cota and one of several children. She was educated there and on May 16, 1906 was united in marriage to Michael D. Kelly at Harpers and this town has always been her home. Left to mourn the passing of a loving mother are four children: Sister Mary Paschal and Clement Kelly Dubuque; Rev. Lawrence Kelly S.J., Milwaukee, Wis., Joseph Kelly of Harpers. Other immediate survivors include brother George and sister Mrs. Gerald Pugsley, Dubuque; Mrs. Pat Manning and Mrs. Agnes Conway, Lansing; Dennis Cota, Mrs. Emma Cahalan of Waukon; Martin and William Cota, Harpers. Preceding her in death besides her husband were a son, Maurice, killed in service in World War II; a son Leon last November, a sister, Mrs. Ellen Kernan and brothers, John and Peter Cota.
Mrs. Kelly was active in church and community affairs and served as postmaster for twenty-four years. A life long member of St.Ann's parish she was a member of the Lady Foresters and the Rosary Society of St. Ann's. She was widely known for her courteous and accomodating service as a public official. The Solemn Requiem Mass was offered by her son Rev. Lawrence S.J. and interment was in the family lot in St. Joseph's cemetery, Paint Rock nearby. Carrying her mortal remains to their final resting place were six nephews; Eaton, Donald and Jerry Cota; Pat Manning, Emmett Cahalan, and Peter Conway.
