John R. Hogan, 80, of Lansing died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 14 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, both in Lansing. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday, October 13 from 4-8 p.m. at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing, where there will be a scripture service at 8 p.m.

John is survived by his wife, Margaret; four children, Susan Rothman of Lakeville, MN, Kevin (Donna) Hogan and Mary Kate Hogan, both of Lansing, and Patrick (Robin) Hogan of LaCrosse, WI; eight grandchildren, Russell and Douglas Rothman, and Sean, Kate, Dillon, Nellie, Shannon and Connor Hogan; four siblings, Patty (Joe) Entz of Waterloo, Paul (Jane) Hogan of Des Moines, Margaret (John) Feeley of Crystal Lake, IL, and Carol (Carl) Esker of Cedar Rapids.

John was born in Black Hawk County in Iowa to Daniel and Bernice (Houck) Hogan. He served in the Army during the Korean War and married Margaret Brennan August 6, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing. He worked for Brennan Construction from 1957 until he retired in 1991. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed playing golf and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two siblings, Mary Lou Recker and Charles Hogan.
