Funeral services for Kenneth W. O'Brien of Waukon were held Thursday, July 25 at 11 o'clock in St. John's Lutheran Church, Waukon. Rev. Lynn Groe officiated and interment was in the Oakland Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth O'Brien was born in the Waukon area April 21, 1913. He was the son of Warren and Lena Koehring O'Brien. He died July 22, 1991 at Veteran's Memorial Hospital, Waukon.
He graduated from Waukon High School in 1930 and the Waukon Junior College in 1932.
He farmed in the Ludlow area for 39 years. He was also a rural school teacher in Ludlow for four years. He was active in St. John's Lutheran Church, a former 4-H leader, a member of the Allamakee County Extension Council for many years, Ludlow Township election board, Waukon Senior Citizens, Care Review committee for Northgate Manor and was active in the Democratic party.
On July 30, 1938 he married Alphild Pladsen in Waterloo.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Leslie and sisters, Florence Chapin and Mary Elliott.
He is survived by his wife, Alphild, two daughters, Colleen (Mrs. Ronald Randel) of Overton, TX and Mrs. Dennis Rehder of Des Moines and a son, Dr. Daniel O'Brien of Springfield, IL; 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Casket bearers were Larry O'Brien, Robert Jenkins, Bill Blagsveit, Roger Pladsen, Steven Kiesau and Carlton Christianson.
Honorary casket bearers were Norman Peterson, Ray Odegard, Roland Koehring, Donus Duvel, John Pladsen, Arlyn Pladsen, David Pladsen and Cletus Pladsen.
