P.H. DeLacy

After more than a year of suffering P.H. DeLacy died at 2p.m. Friday at his home in the southern part of the city. The fatal disease manifested itself early in the spring a year ago in the shape of violent pains in the head. He sought medical advice and suffered two operations at LaCrosse, but with no benefit, ulcers kept forming in the interior of his head, breaking and discharging through the ears and nose. The disease made slow progress and he was confined to the house for nearly a year, receiving faithful care and attention from his devoted wife until the end came. Patrick Henry Delacy was born at New London, Can., Oct. 23, 1846, and came with his parents to Lansing in the early days. In 1868 or '69 he came to Waukon and, with the exception of the years from '89 to '91, has lived here ever since. He was married to Fannie Cleveland in this city April 14, 1875, who, with three sons, C.J. at Mason City, C.H. at Omania, Minn., and J.C., Huron, S.D. survive him. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Jas. Delacy, at Fulton, Ill., three brothers, John of Clinton, Iowa, James of LaCrosse, Thomas of Fulton, and four sisters, Mrs. John Gerton of Fulton, Mrs. James Layton, and Mrs. J. Williams of Minneapolis, Mrs. M. McGovern, Orient, S.D. Mr. Delacy was one of the old time expert boot and shoe makers, as was his father before him, a class of craftsmen now very scarce, machinery having taken their places. The deceased followed the trade all his life and there are few people in this city or vicinity who have not at some time had work done by him. He was scrupulously honest and upright in all his dealings and free-hearted and generous by nature. While none of us are remembered over long in this work-a-day world, all thoughts of Pat recurring to those who knew him will be kind ones. After Requiem Mass at St.Patrick's church the family departed with the remains on the noon train for Clinton, where burial will take place.
