Was born on the 6th day of June, 1865, at Hoenhausen, Lippe-Depmold. At the age of 17 he came with his eldest brother, Henry, to America, locating near Waukon.

Mr. Hangesmeier was united in marriage to Louise Klepper of Frankville in 1893. Seven children were born unto them and one son died in infancy.

The deceased was an industrious citizen, a loving husband and father, loved and respected by all who knew him. In 1920 Mr. Hangesmeier was elected an elder of Salem Reformed church of Ludlow township. This position he filled most faithfully, earnestly contending for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Christ crucified was his life, therefore to die was his gain.

After a lingering illness of several months the deceased was called into eternal rest last Sunday morning at the age of 62 years, 10 months and 23 days.

Besides a loving and faithful wife the deceased leaves to mourn two sons, four daughters, three grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters and many other relatives and friends. The children are John, Reuben, Emma, Dorothy, Mrs. Mata Adam and Mrs. Esther Fiet, all of Ludlow township. The brothers are Henry and Simon of Waukon; Mrs. Simon Opfer of Waukon and Mrs. Henry Simmons in Germany are the two surviving sisters.

We weep, but not as those which have no hope, for we know that Jesus died and rose again, therefore also they which sleep in Jesus God will bring with him. "I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness."

Funeral services were held at Salem Reformed church of west Ludlow last Wednesday, wtih burial at the cemetery north of the church. The ministers taking part were Rev. Wm. Huenemann of Meno, S. D.; Rev. E. T. Finck of Postville, Rev. K. Widmeyer of Ludlow, and Rev. K. J. Stuebbe, the deceased's pastor. The funeral was the most largely attended of any ever held from that church. Six brothers of the deceased's wife officiated as pallbearers.
