Death of Mrs. Kaeser Friday, Aged 86 Years

-----------------

The long, earthly pilgrimage of Mrs. John J. Kaeser was closed Friday, Dec. 30, 1938. Death resulted from a paralytic stroke that left her an invalid for over ten years. Everything that her loved ones could do was done to make her declining years comfortable and happy. She retained her faculties to the end of life's journey, had an admirable memory and delighted in recalling events that transpired in her younger years.

As Harriet Deremore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Deremore, she was born in Maryland, Feb. 26, 1852, and was nearing her 87th birthday. When a child she came with her parents to this county, settling on a farm near Waukon. On Nov. 28, 1873, her marriage to John J. Kaeser took place. He died Sept. 4, 1917, and in 1928 she came to Waukon to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Ruby Rice.

Eight children were born to this union, seven of whom survive, namely; Mrs. Hattie Walton, Seneca, S.D.; Mrs. Sophia Schneider, J.S. Kaeser, D.J. Kaeser, Mrs. Ruby Rice, C.A. Kaeser, and Mrs. Martha Schneider, all of Waukon, who mourn the death of a devoted mother. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Mary J. Berrier, Spokane, Wash. and Miss Susan Deremore, Sioux Falls, S.D., 25 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kaeser was one of the pioneer mothers of this county and her life was an active one, as were those veteran mothers who assisted in shaping the early history of Allamakee County, where she lived for 83 years.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. A.C. Crouch. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery and those who carried the remains to their last resting place were Lawrence Russel, John Dotseth, Merton Palmer, S.W. Ludeking, William Haas, and Dr. J.H. McCullough.
