OBITUARY
John J. Kaeser, one of the pioneer residents of this county, was born in Canton Berne, Switzerland, Oct.10, 1844 and died in his home near Waukon, Iowa, Sept.4th, 1917. Aged 72 years, 10 months, and 29 days.
He came with his parents to America in 1854, landing in Dubuque. In the spring of 1855, they moved to Allamakee County.
Nov.28th, 1873, he was united in marriage with Miss Harriet Deremore, who with seven children mourn the loss of a kind and faithful husband and father. For nearly fourty-four years husband and wife had walked hand in hand in all affairs of life, their eight children had been born and seven grown to manhood and womanhood, and together they mourned their little Maud, who, twenty years ago, left them for a better home, and now disease came to the strong, energetic man, and he slowly wasted away until God said it is enough, enough toil and care, and enough suffering, and the paths of husband and wife parted for a little while. The surviving children are Hattie S. Kaeser, Sophie M. Schneider, Samuel, Daniel, Ruby E. Rice, Charles A., and Martha Schneider. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren, three sisters, and one brother, besides 7 nieces and two nephews.
Funeral was held in the Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Van Nice, and burial was made in Oakland Cemetery.
Mrs. Kaeser and family desire to say thanks and God Bless You to all who have so kindly entreated them in their time of affliction and sorrow.
