Funeral services were held Friday, April 5,1963 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lansing for Mrs. Joseph B Reed who passed away at the home of her daughter Juliet after a breif illness. Reverend Wm. Tjaden officated.
Hedwig Caroline Kerndt was born June 4, 1881 near Lansing, the daughter of Gustave H and Julia Troendle Kerndt. She was united in marriage to Joseph B. Reed on May 8, 1906.
Mrs reed is survived by her husband, three daughters: Juliet, Mrs Harry W. Meyer of Waukon; Dorothy, Mrs. Edward H. Walter of Guttenburg; and Ruth, Mrs H. A. McKinney of Cedar Rapids; two sons: Robert, of rural Lansing, and Bruce of El Paso, TX; thirteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She is alos survived by two brothers: Oscar of Lansing and Walter of Baraboo, WI.
She was preced in death by her parents, three brothers, and one great-grandson.
Thus a good Christian wife, mothe and grandmother has gone on to await the coming of her loved ones. At her request, her grandson Edwin Walter sang at her service. She was carried to the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery by Edwin Cooper, Curtis Lenz, John Thompson, Theodore Herman, and Clarence Kerndt.
