Donald R. Peterson

Memorial services for Donald R. Peterson, 69, of 801 Twenty-sixth St., Des Moines, who died of cancer Monday, August 27 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Postville Cemetery.

Mr. Peterson was born in Centuria, Wis., and was the son of the A. L. Peterson's, Postville. He had lived in Des Moines 45 years. He worked for Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Co. for more than 25 years, retiring in 1975. In addition, he had worked on the editorial staff for the Des Moines Register and Tribune Company. He had also been an announcer with WNAX in Yankton, S. D.

He attended Coe College and was a member of Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church. He was active in many community theater groups, including the Des Moines Community Playhouse, the Drama Workshop and the Kendall Community Playhouse and summer repertoire productions at Clear Lake.

Survivors include his wife, Roena; two daughters, Aileen Sandell of Fort Dodge and Kathleen Nelson of River Forest, Ill.; two sons, Richard D. and William, both of Iowa City; four brothers, Charles of Wilton, Richard F. of Cedar Rapids, Duane of Niles, Ill., and Roland of Yankton, and four grandchildren.
