Nettie Eugenia Powell

Nettie Eugenia Rist Powell, daughter of Charles W. and Celia A. Potter Rist, was born September 5, 1878 in Kossuth county, Iowa. She passed away October 26, 1964 at her home in Postville after three years of illness at the age of 86 years, one month, and 21 days.

She attended schools in Kossuth county and in Lincoln, Nebraska and taught school for many years. On December 7, 1904 she was united in marriage to Ainsworth L. Powell of Franklin township, Allamakee county, Iowa. The couple farmed in Kossuth county for five years than spent two years in Portland, Oregon and three years on their farm in Franklin township, until 1942. They lived in Chicago from 1942 to 1950 when they moved to Postville.

Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, Ainsworth on September 23, 1960. She is survived by her seven children, William F. of rural Luana, Louis I. of rural Decorah, Mrs. Lessie (Kurt) Falb of Chicago, Mrs. Thelma (Harley) Cowell of Postville, Clyde L. of Polo, Illinois, Harvey E. of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Lillian (Otis) Stockton of rural Waukon; 22 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Hayne of Webster City and Mrs. Susan (James) Reid of Polo, Illinois.

She was a member of Rebecca Lodge.

Funeral Services were held at the Schutte Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 28, with the Rev. Walter T. Martin in charge. Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery.
