Services Held For Leora C. Plaht
Funeral services for Leora C. Plaht of Postville were held October 17 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Rev. Norris C. Swenson officiated.
Leora, daughter of Fred and Wilhelmina Meyer Brandt, was born May 29, 1896 on a farm in Clayton County, south of Postville, Iowa and died October 14, 1978 in Postville.
She attended rural schools in Grand Meadow Township. She married Edwin C. Plaht on January 29, 1919. She and her husband farmed in the Postville area, retiring in 1955 and moving to Postville. To their union three children were born, Harvey, Marlin and Arlene. Her husband died in 1967.
A life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Postville, she was baptized July 26, 1896, by Pastor F. W. Schumann and confirmed March 20, 1910 by Pastor R. Kuehne. She was an Honor Roll member of the LCW and a member of the Henderson Prairie Study Club.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter; brothers Roland and Harlan and a brother and sister, both in infancy.
Survivors include her two sons, Harvey, Postville, and Marlin, Luana; her daughter, Arelene (Mrs. Troy Gilbert), Waterloo; eight grandchildren; a brother, Ewald, Postville; and two sisters, Clara (Mrs. Earl W. Haefner), Grand Junction, Colorado and Delia (Mrs. Irvin Meyer), McGregor.
Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
Service arrangements handled by Schutte Funeral Service, in Postville.
