Services for Harvey Plaht were held Saturday, November 8, 1980, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Reverend Julius L. Peterson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Milton Turner, Merlin Harnack, Merle Lange, Terry Foels, Myrl Dickman, Don Rose, Clarence Hilgerson and Phillip Wander.
Harvey F. Plaht, son of Edwin and Leora (Brandt) Plaht, was born December 31, 1922, in Clayton County, Iowa. He passed away November 5, 1980, at his home near Postville.
He was baptized on February 4, 1923, and confirmed April 5, 1936. He attended the Grand Meadow Township School and graduated from Postville High School in 1941. On February 15, 1953, he was married to Joan Meyer. To this union five sons were born.
He worked for the Postville Feed Mill and then the Farmers Cooperative for 27 years.
Harvey was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, and very active in 4-H, serving as a leader for several years; also active in the FFA and an Honorary Chapter Farmer. He was a member of the Postville Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, in infancy.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; five sons: Bradley, Michael, Randal, Scott, and Larry, all of Postville; a brother, Marlin of Luana, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Troy (Arlene) Gilbert of Waterloo, Iowa.
