Burial will be at Bethlehem Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Postville. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Niel's memory to diabetes research.

Niel Leon Klocke was born April 24, 1937 on the Ludlow Township, rural Waukon farm of his parents, Clarence and Alvina (Nagel) Klocke. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and attended Ludlow rural schools. Following his schooling he worked for several area farmers. From 1956 until 1959 Niel served in the U.S. Navy, spending most of his time as a flight mechanic. After his discharge he returned to northeast Iowa, where he farmed in Ludlow for a couple of years and worked as an electrician in Monona and Postville before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1966.

Niel was an electrician and member of IBEW Local 405 for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1999. In 2001 he moved to Lansing, where he has lived ever since. Niel married Colleen Liddiard in 1956; they were later divorced. He spent the last 29 years with his companion, Joni Rawlins.

Niel was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge and American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, dancing, playing cards, recreational gaming and traveling. He was an avid sports fan and particularly liked to follow the Hawkeyes, Cubs and Brewers, enjoying the chance to tailgate at football games whenever he could. His fondness for people made the times spent with family and friends his favorite and he had very much enjoyed spending the winters in Florida since retiring.

Survivors include his wife, Joni Rawlins of Lansing; four children, Randy (Wendy) Klocke of Chandler, AZ, Kathy (Barry) Bunner of Shawnee, KS, Reggie (Jamie) Klocke of Walford, and Gregg (Carol) Klocke of Marion; two stepchildren, Jeff Rawlins of Des Moines and Tammie (Randy) Ellis of Center Point; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Hazel Rissman and Darlene (Neil) Barth, both of Waukon, Carol Weiland and Angela Kula, both of Cedar Rapids, and Linda (Robert) Thompson of Waterville. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Timothy.

Honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Casey, AJ, Zach, Blake, Josh, Chad, Carson, Kobe, Landen, Abby, Hannah, Maddie, Sara, Nettie, Staci and Danielle. Casketbearers are Allen and Wayne Rissman, Wayne Kloke, Roger Stock, Pat Reisinger, Don Nagel, Troy Thompson and Steve Kummer.
