Norma Welper

Norma Welper, age 75, of Hesper died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 2 at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, with the Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Burial was in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, MN assisted with arrangements.

Norma was born March 4, 1933 in Spring Grove, MN to Olaf and Selma (Morken) Goodno. She attended the Quandahl and Bea schools and the Mabel High School. September 10, 1950 she married Reginald L. Welper at the Hesper Lutheran Church. They lived in Dubuque until 1956, when they moved to the farm in the Hesper area, and have resided there since. Reginald passed away February 7, 1997.

Norma worked at the Home Café and Countryside Inn in Mabel, MN. She was an active member of the Hesper Lutheran Church, where she had been the Sunday School Superintendent for several years, WELCA, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed tatting, cooking, sewing, and helping with quilts for the graduates from church.

Norma is survived by five sons, Ronald (Rosemary) of Bishopstone, England, Steve (Nancy) of Hesper, Neil (Roberta) of Cloquet, MN, Russell (Nancy) of Dorchester, and Robert (Lisa) of Clear Lake; two daughters, Lori (Alan) Heitman of New Albin and Julie (Robert) Renk of Caledonia, MN; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, George (Beverly) of East Dubuque, IL, Roger (Yvonne) of Hesper, Solon of LaCrosse, WI, and Gary (Darleen) of Hesper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald; an infant daughter; her parents; and a sister, Ragna Hillard.
