MABEL, Minn. (Special) -Funeral services for Kenneth Westby, 41, will be held at Mabel First Lutheran Church when his son returns from Vietnam.
The Rev. Clayton Engan will officiate. Burial will be In the Mabel cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion Post. Mengis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Westby died suddenly of a heart attack Monday at 9 a.m. while at the Mabel First National Bank. He had had a heart condition a number of years.
He was born June 16, 1927, near Waukon, Iowa, to Carl C. and Rachel Nash Westby and attended a rural school in Allamakee County, Iowa. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He married Ruth Ruroden May 5, 1948. They farmed near Spring Grove until 1965 when ill health forced him to retire and they moved to Mabel. He was a member of Mabel First Lutheran Church and Joseph B. Lund Post, American legion.
Survivors are: His wife; two sons, James, U.S. Marines in Vietnam, and John, at home; four daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Judy) Vickerman, Spring Grove, and Joyce, Janet and Jean, at home; his parents; four brothers, Arden and Gordon, Lakewood, Calif.; Lyle, Waukon, and Roger, Decorah, Iowa, and four sisters, Mrs. Wesley Brandt, Postville, Iowa; Mrs. Robert Denk, Decorah, Iowa;
Mrs. Stanley Nygaard, Waverly, Iowa, and Mrs. William Radke, Racine, Wis. One granddaughter has died.
