Charlotte Thorstenson

Charlotte M. Thorstenson, 95, of Waukon died Monday, September 8, 2008 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, September 12 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery.

Charlotte Mary Thorstenson was born May 24, 1913 in La Crosse, WI, the daughter of Andrew and Annie (Larkin) Jacobson. She was confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon. Charlotte attended Jefferson #5 rural Allamakee County School.

November 11, 1931 she married Eilert Thorstenson at the First Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Waukon. They farmed together in Jefferson Township for many years, where Charlotte raised chickens and sold eggs. She also worked at Veterans Memorial Hospital for 12 years in the dietary department. Charlotte and Eilert moved to Waukon in 1999.

She was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and was very active in WELCA and held various offices. Charlotte enjoyed cross stitching, quilting, crocheting, bowling, and playing cards, especially euchre. She loved visiting with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Eunice (Robert) Kolsrud and Wayne (Ronda) Thorstenson, both of Waukon, Dean (Juanita) Thorstenson of Waterville, David (Linda) Thorstenson of Cedar Rapids, and Karla Honn of Waukon; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Eilert, who died in 2000; and an infant daughter, Ida Ann Thorstenson.

Honorary casketbearers were Krystal Cahalan, Debbie Hartkemeyer, Heather Hogan, Kelly Reiser, Denise Sweeney, Wendy White, and Andrea and Terri Thorstenson. Casketbearers were Carlyle, Richard and Clark Kolsrud, and Eric, Lennie, Bradley and Damian Thorstenson.
