Funeral Rites Sunday For William H. Lenz

Funeral services were held at the first Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock for William Henry Lenz, who passed away Thursday at a La Crosse hospital following a period of ill health.

He was born June 6th 1878 at Churchtown, a son of Henry Lenz and Mary Gramlich and following his education in the schools of that community farmed and opened a garage in that village. He later came to Lansing and for years continued in the automobile and farm implement business until his retirement several years ago becoming widely known as a master mechanic. On January 1st 190_ he married at Church town to Mathilda Bauman who preceded him in death on August 31st 1951. Others preceding him were his parents and one sister Mrs. Emma Parks, of Gilette, Wyo. Left to mourn his passing are two daughters, Miss Evelyn and Mrs. J. W. (Alice) Underwood and one son, Curtis, all of Lansing. Other immediate survivors include four grand children, Roger and Keith Lenz, Barbara and David Underwood, three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Nettie) Yahnke, Garden City, Minn; Mrs. F. W. (Clara) Bauman, Lansing; Mrs. Burton (Edna) Hanson, Maywood, Ill.; 3 brothers, Edward, of Eagle Bend, Minn.; Harry, Mabel, Minn., Theodore of Colby, Wis. Besides a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lenz was a member of the first Presbyterian Church and for many years served as a director of the Lansing school board as well as for a time as member of the city council. Reverend James Coats conducted the funeral services and said the final prayers at the graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery where interment was made. Special music was furnished by Mrs. L. O. Terry, organist and George Aschom vocalist. Casket bearers were John Henry Lenz, Earl Garrett, Claude Schafer, J. Elmer Kelleher, Wayne Donaldson and Ernest Easley. Among the out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the last rites were Mrs. Charles Yahnke and son Dale, Garden City, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Lenz, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Iverson, John Lenz, Mabel, Minn.; Theodore Lenz, Lavern Lenz, Mrs. G. Anderson, Abbotsford, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Lenz, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Lenz, Mr. Henry Wendel, Eagle Bend, Mrs. Burton Hanson, Maywood, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Anderson, Caledonia, Minn.; Mr. John Wendel and son Alfred, Spring Grove, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fritz, Edgewood; Mrs. David Opfer, and Mrs. William Welch, La Crosse.
