Mrs. William Steiber Victim of Pneumonia

Relatives and friends were shocked Thursday morning to learn that Mrs. William Steiber had passed away at 4:00 a. m., at her home in Lafayette after a week's illness of pneumonia.

With her passing the family has lost a devoted Christian wife and mother and the community a kind and generous friend.

Miss Lula Phipps was born in Lafayette township, August 18, 1888, the daughter of Elizabeth and the late M. T. Phipps. She was united in marriage to William Steiber on October 12, 1910. This union was blessed with two children, Ferne, Mrs. Arthur Wendel of Lansing and Gladys, Mrs. Ralph Jenkins, formerly of Fulton, Illinois, but now at home. She is also mourned by her little niece, Wilma Phipps to whom she has given a mother's care since babyhood, her grandson, Billy Wendel; her mother, Mrs. E. Phipps; four sisters, Mrs. Lewis Drake, Mrs. Alice Bailey of Lansing, Mrs. Earl Bailey and Miss Theresa Phipps of Saint Paul, four brothers, Ervin of Waukon, Leroy of Decorah and Harry and Will of Canada and numerous nieces and nephews. A sister, Mrs. Mildred Mortimer, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Steiber was an active member of the Calvary Evangelical Church and a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She was a prominent worker in the Associated Women of Farm Bureau, having recently won the A.F.B F. award pin.

The largely attended funeral services were held Saturday from the Evangelical church, Rev. G. W. Cramer, pastor, officiating, assiated by Rev. E.R.Walter, former pastor, now of La Verne, with burial in beautiful Oak Hill cemetery. Casket bearers were Carl Hurm, Robert Guider, Leslie Gruber, Dan Goettle, Harold Gaunitz and Floyd Larson.

Out of town relatives and friends in attendance were Mrs. Earl J. Bailey and Miss Theresa Phipps of St. Paul; Carrol Bailey of Canton, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Phipps and family of Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Phipps and family of Decorah; Rev. and Mrs. E. R. Walter and daughter Ruth of La Verne, Iowa, and numerous friends from Waukon, New Albin and other points.
