MRS. HELMER ASCHOM PASSES AWAY FRIDAY

Death came to Mrs. Helmer Aschom at her home on West Main street early Friday morning, after a lingering illness. She was born Anna Antoinette Gander, January 11, 1879, a daughter of Frank and Mary Gander, in the same house in which she died 61 years later.

The deceased received her education in the local Catholic school and as a child passed her time between town and country, her folks also operating a farm west of town.

On February 6, 1907, in the Cathedral chapel in Dubuque, she was married to Helmer Aschom by Rev. Father Berry. To this union were born four daughters, Helen (Mrs. Al. Gourley), Leona, Clara, Georgia, and one son, Norbert, who with the sorrowing husband mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother.

Mrs. Aschom was preceded in death by her father in 1888 and her mother in 1907 and also three brothers and one sister. Besides the above mentioned family she is survived by four grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Gander, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ferring and Miss Josephine Gander, all of Lansing. Miss Leona, with the assistance of other members of the family, gave much care and assistance to their dear mother during her illness, including Miss Josephine Gander, who made her home with them.

Mrs. Aschom was content with her home, her family and church, being a lifelong member of this parish, and devoted her whole time to those aims. She was seldom seen down town, being happiest with her children or when visited by her neighbors or long time friends. A devout Catholic and member of the Rosary society, Mrs. Aschom died fortified by the last rites of the Mother Church.

The funeral services were held on Monday morning at I. C. church, Rev. Msgr. Haxmeier officiating and saying the prayers at the graveside. Interment was made in Gethsemane, and casket bearers were Frank, Herbert, Herman and Leonard Gander, William Manning and James Troendle.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were: Al. Gourley, Lockwell City, Ia; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hurm and son Clarence, Milwaukee; Mrs. Lulu Olson, Madison; Dominic Deffeler, Dyersville; Jake Keffeler, Watkins; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gander, Kellogg, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Svebakken, Bernard Svebakken, Mr. and Mrs. H.
