WM. GEOTTEL DIES HERE LAST FRIDAY
Pioneer Lansing Resident Had Been Failing Last Years; Buried at Waukon.
William Goettel, pioneer resident of Lansing, died at his home here last Friday at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 18 days.
He was born near Waukesha, Wis., May 17, 1863, the son of Carl and Henrietta Goettel, who came to Allamakee county in the 60's. It was in this community that Will received his education, farmed and performed his labors of love through which he endeared himself to the whole community. On March 13 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Augusta Dee, and throughout these 45 years they have lived happily devoted to each other.
Mr. Geottel had always been a healthy and robust person, never sparing himself but always giving the best he had for the good of others. During the last six or seven years his health has been slowly failing, but not until about a year ago did his trouble seem to be of a serious nature. Everthing that doctors and loving hands could do for him were to no avail. The last few months of his life had been spent in intense suffering, and it was his constant prayer that the Lord would relieve him of his suffering, yet he prayed, " Not my will but Thine be done."
As a boy, Mr. Goettel gave his heart to God and has ever since been a member of the Evangelical church and a faithful follower of his Master. For a number of years he was a teacher in the Sunday school of the May's Prairie church, and also as a trustee was faithful to his task. He was a member of the trustee board during the building of the new church in Lansing. Mr. Goettel leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife, one sister, Mrs. Emelia May, one brother, Frank Goettel, both of Lansing, and a host of relatives and friends. His parents, one sister and four brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Calvary Evangelical church in Lansing Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. E. R. Walter officiating, and burial was made in Oakland cemetery at Waukon.
