Clara G. White

Services for Clara G. White, 89, were held Friday, June 6, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville with the Rev. Steve Brackett officiating and the Rev. Dave L. Lenth participating in the service. She died Monday, June 2, 2008 at her home in Postville. Interment was in New Oregon Cemetery in Cresco. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Clara Gustava (Morch) White was born July 2, 1918, in Howard County, near Cresco to Oscar Christofferson and Cora Elizabeth (Sheppard) Morch. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church at Cresco. Clara received her education at Albion at the Darrow Elementary School, a Cresco rural school, and graduated from the Cresco High School in 1936.

Clara loved music and played the piano for many years. In her senior year of High School, she played the violin in the school orchestra. While living in Cresco, Clara played in a "kitchen band," which performed for many community events.

The center of Clara's life was the love and enjoyment of her family and friends and her music. She was active in her church and a member of the Women's Association. She also assisted with the 4-H club and was a member of the Gooding Neighborhood Club, Postville Senior Citizens Club and the Red Hat Society.

Clara was employed in the food service department at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville for nine years. She enjoyed her house plants, a collection of dolls, writing letters, and embroidering.

June 16, 1936, Clara married Russell James White in the First Lutheran Church at Cresco. They had eight children. They farmed in the Cresco area for 19 years before moving to a farm south of Luana in 1956. She lived there for 23 years before moving to Postville.

Clara is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell, who died in 1971; a son, Wesley, who died in infancy; a daughter, Marilee and her husband, Dan Bote; a son-in-law, Ervin Hutchcroft; a granddaughter, Debra White and a brother, Delmar Morch.

Surviving are three daughters, Jeleen Hutchcroft, Anamosa, Vada (Gerald) Guyer, Postville, Yvonne (Ed) Ellwood, Monticello; three sons, Arlis (Rebecca) White, St. Olaf, Harlan (Darlene) White, Postville, Leslie (Rebecca) White, Clermont; 26 grandchildren, Coleen (Terry) Sams, Jeffery (Sue) Hoffman, Wesley (Phyllis) Hoffman, Teresa (Rick) Ulferts, Reva Prestemon, Gaylen (Kitty) Guyer, Rana (Brett) Coffee, Aaron (Merrily) Guyer, Nancy (Sean) Davison, Darci (Matt) Colsch, Darlis Hendry, Russell (Sara) White, Arlis (Heather) White Jr., Lisa (William) Bullerman, Jason (Bridget) White, Sara White, Alan Adney, James (Mary Ann) Townsend, Anthony (Lisa) Townsend, Brenda (Rich) Bash, Jennifer (Tobie) Liberty, Linn White, Eliza (Kanin) Graton, Leif (Jenn), Cameron and Dylan White; 41 great grandchildren, Chris Hartwig; Jason Hoffman; Brittany Tidvall and Cayden Ulferts; Jacob, Samuel, Mariah, Isaac, Joshua Guyer; Trevor, Makenna, and Lanae Coffee; Carter Guyer; Clare and Taylor Davison; Matthew, Ashley and Christopher Colsch; Meshia, Shaunaye and Jaleasah Hendry; Kennedy White; Kayleigh White; Justin, Tyler, and Karlee Bullerman; Drew and Kinsey White; Joseph Lendth; Clinton Townsend; Samantha and Clayton Townsend; Adara and Jacob Townsend; Jordan and Jacob Bash; Damon White; Tyler, Emily, and Gavin Graton; two step-great grandchildren, Ricky and Ryan Ulferts; and one great grandchild, Faith Hartwig.
