John A. Decker Dies In Lansing In His 101st Year
One of Allamakee county's oldest residents, John A. Decker, 101, died Tuesday, April 1 at the home of his daughter and husband. Mr. and Mrs. George Aschom in Lansing following a short illness.
He was born Feb. 23, 1868 in Lansing township of Allamakee county, and was a son of John A. and Mary Eichhorn Decker. He was educated in the local schools and was engaged in farming until his retirement. Feb 27, 1894 he married Lena M. Hirth, who died Nov. 4, 1926. Survivors are his daughter Mrs. George (Edna) Aschom of Lansing, three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2 at 2 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Lansing with the Rev. Alvin Ebert officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Burke funeral home of Lansing is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Decker, who made his home with his daughter and husband since the death of his wife, was an ardent gardener. He was township trustee, and a member of the election board in Lansing for 40 years.
He was the remaining member of a family of six children and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lansing.
