Leonard John Adam

Leonard John Adam, 82, of Waukon, died Mon., March 26, 2001, at his home in Waukon.

Funeral services will be held Wed., March 28, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon under the direction of Father Allen M. Schmitt. Burial will be in St. Mary's Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon.

Leonard John Adam was born Nov. 13, 1918, on the Ludlow Township farm of his parents, John and Meta Helen (Goebel) Adam. He was baptized at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and while he was very young, moved with his family to Harpers Ferry. He was confirmed at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church and graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1936.

On Dec. 31, 1941, he married Lorraine Welch at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church. Leonard farmed for many years in Ludlow Township. He was also an LP gas carbonation specialist for Empire Gas and supervised five states. Later, he did maintenance work at Northgate Care Center in Waukon and drove a van for Northeast Iowa Community Action. He retired to Waukon in 1990.

Leonard was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon as well as square dance and saddle clubs. He loved music and dancing tending to his horses and dogs. He also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family and treasured his many friends who were a great part of his life.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Norma Easley, Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, of Waukon; two daughters, Maureen Mahoney of Waukon and Marilyn Adam and husband, Ralph Tauke, Stoddard, WI; three sons, john (Lois) Adam, Jim (Radine) Adam, and Bill (Cheryl) Adam, all of Waukon; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is assisting the family.
