Evelyn Harriet Anderson

Evelyn Harriet Anderson 87, of Waukon, died Mon., Jan., 7, 2002 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

Funeral services were held Fri., Jan. 11, 1 p.m., at Center Baptist Church in rural Lansing with Rev. Reuben Grueneich officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Evelyn Harriet Anderson was born on March 8, 1914 at Elon, the daughter of Oscar and Hannah Victoria (Ahiquist) Johnson. She was baptized at Center Baptist Church in 1923 and attended area rural schools. She worked as a hired girl for neighbors for several years before marrying Charles John Anderson on April 12, 1932 at her grandmother's home near Elon.

The couple farmed together as well as operated the Elon Store for a number of years before moving to Waukon in 1947. There she worked as a clerk for Graham's Department Store during the 1950's and as a nurse's aid at Good Samaritan Center for many years after that.

Evelyn was a very faithful and active member of Center Baptist Church where she taught Sunday and Bible school and was an officer in the Missionary Society. She was an excellent cook and baker and loved hosting her family and friends when they came to visit. She liked to sew, knot, crochet, and embroider and kept very current on world events.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles; a son, C. John Anderson; a son-in-law, Myron Bray; a daughter-in-law, Lana Anderson; a grandson, Rodney Bray, and two brothers, Reuben and John Johnson.

Survivors include four daughters, Janet Bray of La Crescent, MN, Lois (Donald) Aldrich of Lansing, Ruth (John) Hartley of Postville, and Mary (Frank) Regan of Waukon; a son, Warren "Tom" (Cheryl) Anderson of Des Moines; a daughter-in-law, Lois Anderson of Cedar Rapids; 21 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Haack of Westminster, MD and Helen (Herbert) Bruns of Waukon; two sisters-in-law, Christine Johnson of Maryland and Joan Johnson of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

Casketbearers were Robert, Alan, and Paul Bray, Nathan Aldrich, Bradley Anderson, David and Steven Hartley, Lonnie Anderson, and Brian and Sean Regan.
