Kay was tirelessly devoted to people. At the core of this devotion was her love and commitment to her family, which also gave her the strength, energy and determination to be an advocate, a service provider and a very caring person for all who were in need. Kay saw everyone as a valuable person and resource to others. Kay's professional vision was that supporting and improving family functioning would allow the family to grow as a unit and then allow the family to strengthen individuals within that unit who were in need.
Kay's professional career started with the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) at the Woodward State Hospital School for the mentally challenged and developmentally challenged. When Kay moved to the Quad Cities, she remained with DHS as a Local Area Service Administrator with a focus on community based services. The skills provided Kay with state wide and national recognition. She expanded her professional base to a broad range of clients, services and administrative responsibilities, with the core being Child Welfare.
Kay's retirement in 1999 did not stop her practicing her devotion to family and to needy people of the community. Professionally, Kay remained active, including becoming a board member of "Local Area Network" (LAN), the Scott County Regional Authority District Isle of Capri, and the Community Initiatives Committee of the United Way of the Quad City Area, and a consultant to the John Lewis Coffee shop.
