Helen Libbey

Helen F. Libbey, 74, of Lansing died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday, April 5 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Society.

Helen Faye Libbey was born November 10, 1933 in North Little Rock, AR, the daughter of Frank and Provina (Perin) Otto. She graduated from North Little Rock High School. Helen lived in Honolulu, HI for two years. There she met Basil Jack Libbey, Sr. and they were married May 11, 1955 in Honolulu.

After they were married they moved to Waterloo, where they lived for over 30 years and Helen was a member of Bethel United Presbyterian Church, the PTA and Waterloo Fire Department Auxiliary. She and Basil moved to rural Lansing in 1989, where they spent their summers and enjoyed their winters in Alamo, TX. Helen enjoyed fishing, camping, playing shuffle board and following her grandchildren's school activities.

Survivors include her children, Jack (Dixie) Libbey of Lansing, Mike (Victoria) Libbey of Burlington, WI and Sandy (Bill) Lloyd of Harpers Ferry; nine grandchildren; a special friend, Vernon Mortensen of Royal; a brother, Frank (Elaine) Otto of North Little Rock, AR; and a half-sister, Pauline Healy of Ft. Smith, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Basil "Buzz" Libbey, who died in 2000; a sister, Ruby Justice; three half-brothers, Jack, Camet and Gordon Otto; and a half-sister, Joy Crayton.

Honorary casketbearers are her grandchildren, Travis, Nathan, Heather, Emily and Kristina Libbey, and Nic, Billy, Timmy and Joe Lloyd.
