Betty Ronan

Betty A. Ronan, 59, of Waukon, died Tues., Jan. 2, 2001 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

Funeral services were held Sat., Jan. 6 at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Father Daniel Knipper officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Betty Ann Hill Ronan was born June 20, 1941 in Iowa City, the daughter of John and Bertha (Cole) Hill. She attended french Creek #3 rural school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1959. She worked for two years following school for Collins Radio in Cedars Rapids.

On Aug. 19, 1961 she married John Dennis Ronan at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church, where she has remained a member ever since. Betty and Dennis farmed together since their marriage, sharing in many of the chores. Betty truly loved spending time with her family and was devoted to her grandchildren. She enjoyed helping people whenever she had the chance and often welcomed others into her home, just as she would family. She was also particularly close to her former schoolmates.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Walter, John Jr., Floyd, and Melvin Hill. Survivors include her husband, Dennis, of Waukon; two daughters, Rita (Tom) Pfiffner and Rhonda (Kent) Stock, both of Waukon; four sons, Rodney Ronan, James (Sara) Ronan, and Rick (Bridget) Ronan, all of Waukon; and Raymond (Diane) Ronan of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Bechtel and Agnes Seitz, both of Lansing, and Mary (Don) Moritz of Maquoketa; two brothers, Edward (Carolyn) Hill of Cedar Rapids and Kenneth (Charlotte) Hill of Harpers Ferry; and many nieces and nephews.

Honorary casketbearers were members of the class of 1959, including Carol Sivesind, Rev Lonning, Carol Tunchel, Cheryl Nagel, Deloris Klocke, Alaine Meier, Mary Ellen Mohwinkle, and Betty Decker. Casketbearers were Dick Ronan, Bernard Welsh, Lloyd Welsh, Don Moritz, Lyle Hanson, and Dennis Lyons.

Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family.
