Funeral services for Mrs. Lila Renzman were held Tuesday, January 18, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Robert Hupp officiated. Joann Martins was the organist and Ronald Meyer was the soloist. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
Lila Ovedia (Gulsvig) Renzman, the daughter of Embret Gulsvig and Ida (Reierson) Gulsvig, was born December 21, 1907 on the family farm in Marion Township, Clayton County, south of Postville, Iowa. She passed away Saturday, January 15, 2000 in the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. She had reached the age of 92 years.
She was baptized January 26, 1908 and confirmed June 11, 1922, both in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder and by the Rev. N. Arveson. Lila attended the rural school near her home. On October 11, 1932 she was married to John Carl Renzman. To this union two daughters were born, Betty and Marsha. Lila was a homemaker all of her life, raising her two daughters and her grandson, Lyle. She had been living with her daughter, Marsha, and then became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville in July of 1999.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John, who died in 1953, three brothers, Roy Gulsvig, Milo Gulsvig and Ernest Gulsvig, a sister, Irene Larson, and a grandson, Eric J. Nost.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Hammond and Marsha Nost and her husband, Greg Karasek, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a grandson, Lyle E. Hammond of Reasner, Iowa, three step-granddaughters, Mary Hale, Tami Hill, Robyn Karasek, two step-grandsons, Brett Karasek and Joe Karasek, eight step-great grandchildren, one brother, Richard Gulsvig and wife, Gladys, of Waterloo, Iowa, a sister, Gladys Gulsvig Puffer of Portland, Oregon, and six nieces and nephews.
Lila was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.
Casketbearers were John Hale, David Wach, Lanny Gulsvig, Don Sowers, Dean Gulsvig and Bill Stevens.
