Arlene E. Kimberley

Arlene Esther (Ludeking) Kimberley, 85, of Baxter passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Baxter Health Care Center in Baxter. Funeral services were held Monday, March 10 at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter, with Pastor C. Eugene Bryant officiating. Burial was in Bethany Cemetery, Baxter. Boyd-Davis Funeral Home of Baxter assisted the family with arrangements.

Arlene was born September 7, 1922 in Baxter to Albert and Martha (Klemme) Ludeking. She graduated from Baxter High School in 1940. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter, where she taught Sunday School, belonged to the Women's Fellowship and sang in the choir.

August 18, 1945 she married Norman J. Kimberley at Bethany Church Parsonage, rural Baxter. She was interested in Baxter history and worked on compiling history for the Baxter Centennial. She served as historian for the church and the Baxter Alumni Association for many years. Arlene was a longtime Baxter news correspondent with several area newspapers.

Arlene is survived by three daughters, Kaylene Conter of Ankeny, and Lynnette (John) Hauser and Shirley Kimberley, both of Marshalltown; four grandchildren, Brent (Nancy) Hauser of State Center, Kevin Hauser (Melissa Annen and her children) of Gering, NE, Kristi Conter of Des Moines and Melissa Conter (and her fiance, Brian Butcher) of Ankeny; two great-grandchildren, Emelia Grace and Kate Elyse; and two sisters-in-law, Naomi Rotzman of Hampton and Betty Kimberley of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant sister; and one son-in-law, Roger Conter.

Honorary casketbearers were Doris and Virgil Saak. Casketbearers were Brent and Kevin Hauser, Kristi and Melissa Conter, Brian Butcher and Mike Johnson.
