Wilfred "Bill" E. Walleser, age 76, of Lansing, died Fri., Nov. 29, 2002, as the result of a traffic accident. Funeral services were held Wed., Dec. 4, 2002, at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Msgr. Edward Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane, Lansing, where military rites were accorded by the Gustav F. Kerndt Post #5981 of the VFW and the Beck-Glenn Strong Post #50 of the American Legion. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing assisted with arrangements. Wilfred "Bill" E. Walleser was born in Pearson, Manitoba, Canada, on May 11, 1926, to John J. and Anna (Berns) Walleser. He was married to Bernice Wagner on June 26, 1951, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. Bill served in the US Army at the end of WWII, assisting with the occupation of Japan. He was a member of the Gustav F. Kerndt Post #5981 of the VFW and the Beck-Glenn-Strong Post #50 of the American Legion. He worked as a Pile Driver for J.F. Brennan of La Crosse for many years, retiring in 1988. He was an avid gardener and deer hunter. He was a member of the Lansing Sportsman Club. Bill also served as a City of Lansing councilman and was a former mayor of Lansing. Bill is survived by his wife, Bernice of Lansing; eight children, Monica Walleser of Westminster, Calif., Kenny (Mary) Walleser of Waterloo, Phyllis (Mike) Martino of La Crosse, Mike Walleser of Lansing, James (Terri) Walleser of Lansing, Ron Walleser of Janesville, Wis., Lynn (Mark) Oehler of Marion, and Neil Walleser of Madison, Wis.; ten grandchildren; ten siblings, Stan (Velma) Walleser of De Soto Wis., Francis "Chip" Walleser of Lansing, Helen Fralburger of Peosta, Alice Griffen of Dayton, Ohio, Lawrence "Duke" (Esther) Walleser of Lansing, Louis (Joan) Walleser of Lansing, Willi (Gerald) Finkral of Meadow Grove, Neb., Isabelle (Bud) Hawes of Lansing, Phyllis (Lou) Kimsey of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Colleen (Del) Brown of Ft. Collins, Colo. Bill was preceded in death by a son, Duane, and a brother, Edwin.
Casketbearers were Andy Wagner and Ted, Fred, Tom, Kevin, and Donnie Walleser.
