Florence Irons

Florence E. Irons, 103, of Charles City died Sunday evening, November 25, 2007 at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 28 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City with the Rev. Gary Van Wert officiating. Interment was at the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Florence was born December 6, 1903 in Houston County, MN, the daughter of Charles A. and Mary Catherine (Dehning) Kubitz. She attended country school and graduated from the New Albin High School, Class of 1921. She furthered her education having attended college in LaCrosse, WI.

Florence was united in marriage to Ledford V. Irons December 6, 1926 in Dubuque. She had been employed as a bookkeeper for the New Albin Savings and Loan and also served as the postal clerk in New Albin. In 1944 the couple moved to Charles City, where she continued working as a bookkeeper for the Merle G. Smith Lumber Company as well as two other lumber companies in the area.

Florence was a very active and devoted member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Rebekah Lodge, the Degree of Honor Lodge, the Senior Citizens, and Heritage Club, all of Charles City. Her hobbies and interests included sewing, reading and bird watching.

Florence is survived by her son, Charles Irons of Charles City; two granddaughters, Michelle (Fred) Etter of Charles City and Jennifer (Dale) Moe of Northwood; two great grandchildren, Christopher Moe and Kayla Moe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ledford Irons; her parents, Charles and Mary Kubitz; one sister, four brothers and her daughter-in-law, Elaine Irons.
