Arline Ewing

Arline Lorna Ewing, 85, of Cedar Rapids died peacefully December 2, 2007 while in the care of The Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, following a brief illness. Her family will always be grateful for the comforting care given by the staff of The Hospice House as she made the transition from life on earth to eternal life.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 5 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Paul Wilcox. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arline was one of the strong branches on her family tree and all of her descendents have been positively influenced by her energy, charm, wit and character. It comes as no surprise that throughout the years she had been a part of three separate "five generation" families either as a grandma, a great-grandma or great-great-grandma.

Arline was born September 18, 1922 in Waukon to Emma (Straate) and Sam Feuerhelm. She married her loving husband, Jim, September 19, 1939, and they had 64 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2004. Together they raised two daughters, Nancy (Al) Aossey and Lynn Tichy, all of Cedar Rapids. Arline's influence is evident in her grandchildren, Sherry (Kamal) Shaheen, Terry (Mudium) Aossey, Amy Aossey, Darren (Angie) Tichy, and Courtney (Kurt) Packingham as well as her great-grandchildren, Gibran, Shadiyah, and Nahdia Shaheen, Jameil (Ashly) and Raja Aossey, Danyah Aossey, Logan, Tailyn and Emma Tichy, and step-great-grandchildren, Kohl, Dane, and Garet Packingham, Christina Hess and Olivia Gieseman, and now her first great-great-grandson, Dean Jameil Aossey.

She is also survived by sisters, Dolores (Noel) Tollefson and Dorothy (John) Fields; and sisters-in-law, Marge Feuerhelm, Laverna Feuerhelm, Millie Wells, Kate Ewing, and Lillian (J.C.) Batla. Preceding her in death were her loving husband, Jim Ewing; her parents, Emma and Sam Feuerhelm; her beloved grandson, Terry Aossey; sisters, Grace (Stan) Procok and Lorraine (Charlie) Aud; brothers, Ken, Carl, and James Feuerhelm; and brother-in-law, Melvin Ewing.

Though a devoted employee for many years at Collins Radio Company, her passion in life was always raising her family. Arline was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids for over 40 years and recently joined the Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.

"In each and every family we know some rain must fall, but what a lovely rainbow will rise above it all" ... we'll miss you, mom.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice in Arline's memory.

The Waukon Standard, December 5, 2007

Submitter notes: Arline's husband James Henry Ewing was the son of Melvin Claude and Hattie (Hager) Ewing of Castalia, Iowa.
