DONALD F. LAYMAN
Donald F. Layman, 64, of Henderson, NV, died Sun., Oct. 1, 2000, at his home in Henderson following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Wed., Oct. 11 at 11 a.m., at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. Rev. Lynn G. Groe will officiate. Burial with graveside military rites will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Donald was born Dec. 9, 1935, in Camden, NJ, the son of William and Edna (LaBoube) Layman. At the age of eight he moved with his family to California. Donald graduated from high school in Anselmo, CA, after which he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following the service, he attended Foothill Jr. College in San Jose, CA, and began a 33 year career with IBM. During the 1960's, Donald worked as a teacher in IBM's, Rochester, MN, education center.
While in Rochester, he met Leigh Ann Flage of Waukon. The couple married on Nov. 30, 1968, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Don and Leigh Ann moved to Petaluma, CA, and he worked in the IBM San Francisco office. In 1980, the couple moved to the Las Vegas, NV, area, where Don retired in 1992 after spending the last 22 years in management.
Don was an Eagle Scout in his youth, was active in the Lions Club while living in California, and coaches soccer teams for 14 years. He was an avid boater and fisherman and enjoyed piloting his private plane. He also spent a lot of time making creative crafts of all kinds. In more recent years, he enjoyed traveling with Leigh Ann in their motor home. He was currently a member of Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, NV.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Louise Sexton. Survivors include his wife, Leigh Ann of Henderson; two sons, Bill (Kris) Layman, Reno, NV, and Devin (Jia) Layman, Portland, OR; two grandchildren, Andrew and Devin; a brother, Ronald (Anita) Layman, San Jose, CA; and two brothers-in-law, Dr. David (Suzanne) Hahn, Waukon, and David Sexton, King City, CA.
Services were also conducted at Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, NV, on Sun., Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. Martin Funeral Home assisted the family.
