ROBERT JAQUIS WATERS

Robert Jaquis Waters was born December 6, 1886, to Martha Jaquis Waters and George A. Waters, at Kimball, South Dakota, and passed away at the Veterans' Memorial Hospital in Waukon, October 28, 1959, at the age of 72.

In 1887 the family moved from Kimball to McIntire, Iowa, where Mr. Waters was educated in the public schools and made his home until 1917.

On December 11, 1912, he was married to Miss Nettie Siple of McIntire. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Waters: Olla, Mrs. Willard Clement of Postville, George of Hampton, Guy of Hialeah, Florida, and a daughter who died at birth. For several years Mr. Waters served as rural mail carrier at McIntire.

In 1917 the family moved to a farm near Postville which was the family home until 1941. During these years, in addition to operating his farm, he was a well-known auctioneer. In 1941 he was appointed deputy sheriff under the late Leonard Bulman. Since that time Waukon was Bob's home where he later served several years as deputy sheriff under William Huffman, resigning January 1, 1959, because of ill health. Until the time of his death he took an active interest in the management of his farm.

Mr. Waters was a member of the Upper Iowa Saddle Club, a recreation and hobby that, because of his life-long enjoyment of horses, gave him satisfaction and pleasure. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in Postville. He attended the Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Waters was preceded in death by his wife who passed away February 13, 1937, his parents; one brother, Ralph, who was killed in France in World War I; two half-brothers, Hobart and Burall, and two grandchildren. Surviving are the three children, nine grandchildren; two nieces and four nephews, several cousins, and a host of friends.
