PAUL RAYMOND WATERS

A funeral mass for Paul Waters was held Thursday, June 13, 1996 at 11 a.m. in the St. Bridget Catholic church in Postville. Father Leo Riley was the celebrant. Mary Ellen Day was lector with Bruce and Julie Day acting as servers. Special music was provided by Dave and Mary Ellen Day and the St. Bridget choir. A parish scripture service was held Wednesday night, June 12 at 7 p.m. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangement. Interment was in the Postville cemetery.

Paul Raymond Waters, son of Robert B. and Mary Ann (McKinley) Waters, was born March 14, 1915 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Postville, Iowa. He died Tuesday, June 11, 1996 in Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. He had reached the age of 81 years, 2 months and 27 days.

He attended a rural school in Clayton County. On October 31, 1938, he was married to Kathryn Jo Strauch in St. Peters Catholic Church in Clermont, Iowa. They had two sons, Thomas and Stanley. The couple farmed south of Postville for a year and then moved to Elgin where they worked for Kathryn's parents at the Elgin Echo. They moved to a farm north of Postville where they started Water's Dairy and then moved into town where they operated Water's Dairy and Dairy Bar.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, two sons, Thomas Paul Waters and his wife, Sharon of Grand Coulee, Washington and Stanley Richard Waters and his wife, Claudia, of Hugo, Minn; four grandchildren, Gregory and Richard Waters and Natalie and Abigail Waters, three great-grandchildren, Zachary Charles Waters, Benjamin Thomas Waters and Brittany Anne Waters; a brother Bertie Waters and his wife, Mabel, of Postville; sisters-in-law, Hazel (Mrs. Ambrose) Waters, of Postville, Fanetta (Mrs. Louis) Waters of Boca Raton, Fl, Milda (Mrs. Leonard) Waters of Dyer, Ind, Betty Schultz and husband, Robert of Luana and Margaret Waters of Decorah, several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Louis, Leonard, Bernard, Clem and Ambrose and two sisters, Marie Leui and Helen Kneeland and brothers-in-law, William Kneeland, Keith Waters and Hugh Strauch.

Paul was a member of St. Bridget Catholic church, the Postville Commercial Club and the Kiwanis Club.

Casket bearers were Ralph Auer, Alvin Erickson, Tom Hogan, Terry Hogan, Winfield Masonhall and Loren Meyer.
