Howard Lawson, age 83, of Waukon, died Tue., Nov. 12, 2002, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Sat., Nov. 16, at Hanson's Funeral Home in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Howard Lawson was born July 7, 1919, in rural Waukon, to Caroline Livingood and Ellwood Lawson. On June 21, 1940, he married Janet (Bub) Tepesch. They lived in Waukon and Caledonia, Minn. He was a bricklayer and carpenter. Howard served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 29, 1945, to Dec. 28, 1948. He served in the 3606th Ordnance in Saipan and Iwo Jima. Survivors include his children, Stacy Smith of Hopkins, Minn., Dwight Lawson of Onalaska, Wis., and Janet Roe of Lansing; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Hansmeier of Ventura, Calif.; and a brother, Allen Lawson of La Crosse, Wis. Howard was preceded in death by his wife; his daughter Carol Ann; and siblings Jean Lawson and Jim Lawson. Casket bearers were Wes Lawson, Greg Lawson, Tyler Baker, Justin Baker, Brenden Curtin, Josh Roe, Mike Irving, Pierce Smith, and Grant Smith.
