Olive Hammel

Olive Hammel, 92, of Plum City, WI, died September 29, 2006 at the Plum City Care Center.

Funeral services were held October 3, 2006 at St. John's Catholic Church in Plum City, WI. Burial took place in the church cemetery. Olive's grandchildren served as the casket bearers.

Olive was born to John and Henrietta (Reid) Glaus in Monona August 7, 1914.

At the age of five, Olive moved, with her family, to Plum City where she attended school. Olive worked in Ellsworth, WI and Lansing. While in Lansing, she met Clair Hammel and they were married June 11, 1940 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Plum City. Together they farmed and raised their family outside of Plum City for over sixty years.

Olive enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was fond of sewing, crocheting, gardening and had a sharp mind for crossword puzzles and playing cards.

Olive is survived by three daughters, Patricia (Robert) Chilson of Lino Lakes, MN, Phyllis (Robert) Miller of Burnsville, MN, and Colleen (Richard) Hoffman of Florence, MT; as well as two sons, Paul of Wabasha, MN and Dennis of Plum City, WI.

She is survived by fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Regina Jahnke of Pepin, WI, two sisters-in-law, Ruth Burke of Lansing, and Joan Glaus of Red Wing, MN; and one brother-in-law, Ralph Hammel of Decorah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clair, infant daughter, Mary, and granddaughter Tricia Miller, as well as seven brothers and three sisters.
