Curtis Tangen

Curtis Dale Tangen was born July 8, 1954 to Carl and Elaine (Hesse) Tangen in Decorah. When Curt was 12, the family moved to Waukon. He graduated in 1972 from Waukon High School where he was active in basketball and cross country. He graduated from Wartburg College in 1976 with degrees in business administration and accounting.

In 1976 he moved to Pella where he was employed by what is now Pella Corp. On May 22, 1982 Curt married Nyla Klein.

He was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church, Pella, where he was a Sunday School teacher, chaired the building committee for a recent addition as well as active in other aspects of the church.

Curt was diagnosed with leukemia in July 1995 and received a bone marrow transplant in October 1995. He died Friday, March 27, 1998 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Curt was 43 years old.

Surviving are his wife and three children, Jonathan, Rachel and Hannah, all at home; his parents of Estherville; a brother Ronald and his wife, Kathy, of Sibley, and a sister, Judy Tangen of Estherville.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 31 at Peace Lutheran Church with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Pastor Mark Pries officiated. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home of Pella was in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Joshua Tangen, Joseph Tangen, Dale Hesse, Terry Behning, Alan Eggland, Bruce Grenier, Mark Hinkie and Denny Van Wyk.

Relatives attending from this area were Dale Hesse, Alice Johnson, Mae Getto, Adeline Rompot, the Kevin Selbergs and the Paul Selbergs.
