Lloyd Thornton

Funeral services for Lloyd Robert Thornton, 66, were held Monday, Jan. 26, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Rev. Julius Peterson officiated. Burial was in Smithfield Cemetery, Monona.

Lloyd Robert Thornton, son of Clarence R. and Martha (Entwisle) Thornton, was born Jan. 11, 1915 in Allamakee County, Iowa. He died Jan. 22, 1981 upon arrival at the Palmer Memorial Hospital, West Union.

He received his education in the rural schools in Allamakee County. Dec. 21, 1938 he was married to LaVanda Suckow at Waukon. They farmed 16 years in the Waukon area. They then moved to Waterloo where he worked for Rath until 1955 when he retired and moved to the West Union area.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sandra; four brothers, William, George, Henry and Vern, and a sister, Margaret.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Earl and Donald, both of Waterloo; six daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Simmons, Mrs. James (Joann) Jordan, Mrs. Norma Adams, all of Waterloo; Mrs. Willis (Lois) Ott of Elkader; Mrs. Fred (Delores) Peverill of Hawkeye and Mrs. James (Karen) Wygle of LaPorte City; 26 grandchildren, one brother, Ross Thornton of Postville; three sisters, Ruth Hinman of Monona; Daisy Livingood of Waukon; and Mrs. Harlan (Frances) Harnack of Castalia.
