Blanche Thornton

Funeral services for Blanche E. Thornton were held Monday, Feb. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Reverend Julius L. Peterson officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Blanche Elizabeth Thornton, daughter of James and Amanda (Denning) Rush, was born June 16, 1909 near Rossville, Iowa. She died Feb. 20, 1982 at Northgate Manor Nursing Home at Waukon.

She received her education in the rural schools, Franklin No. 9, near Rossville. On Jan. 25, 1928 she was married to Vern Thornton. To this union three children were born. They farmed in the Rossville and Postville area and then moved to Postville.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers: Ray, Leslie, Jesse, Carrol, and Dewey, and a sister, Bessie Rush.

Surviving are three sons: Leo, Lloyd and Curtis, all of Postville, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two sister: Mrs. Ethel Walters of Postville and Mrs. Dick (Vernie) Stahl of Lansing, Iowa.
